A life-limiting diagnosis is not the time to dwell on death. Rather, it is the moment to start living your best life.

Let's Get Started

End Of Life Doulas

We are dedicated professionals who play an increasingly important role in the palliative care system due to aging Baby Boomers who often prefer to receive non-medical support at home.
Most End of Life (EOL) Doulas are passionate about what they do. Many have previous experience in Health Services as alternative medicine practitioners, nurses and therapists. Gary Bedell is a Doctor of Traditional Medicine with extensive training in South Africa. Although EOL Doulas are not currently regulated in Canada, many are accredited through industry associations.
EOL Doulas often specialize in the services that they offer. Some are wonderful at helping people deal with all the legal paperwork, from wills to a do not resuscitate (DNR) order. Others are experts at planning vigils and home funerals. Most are skilled at listening and holding the space.
Gary prefers to concentrate on improving quality of life for his clients and alleviating mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. The power of positivity is his prime tool. He believes that healthy social interaction is wonderful medicine. As are  legacy building and creative projects. He also enjoys helping with bucket list fulfillment and planning life celebrations (while the clients is still alive to enjoy the party).
Caregivers, whether family or close friends, play a key role in at-home palliative care. Yet their efforts sometime lead to interiorized guilt, resentment, anxiety and, in extreme cases, self-harm or elder abuse. An assessment of the dynamic between family caregivers and the patient is essential.
No matter the services required, a good relationship between the EOL Doula and the client is paramount. Although it must remain strictly professional at all times, the client needs to sense a bond of trust and empathy. Gary offers a free call to discuss his services and how he might best help.
